About the workshop:
Bitcoin was released to the world in January 2009, amidst the global financial crisis that was ripping up the globe in 2008. An unknown person named Satoshi Nakamoto created an electronic cash system that allows people to transact with each other anywhere on the planet, without the need for a bank or central authority. The Bitcoin system verifies and executes the transactions.
Back then, no one knew that this experiment with digital cash would even work. Much has been said about its real-world applications and how it will never replace fiat money. Though here we are today, with the price of Bitcoin topping at an all-time high of MYR 281,000 on November 10th, 2021, and it does not look like it is slowing down. Since Bitcoin, there are thousands of other cryptocurrencies in circulation, powering the Decentralized Finance (or DeFi) movement that is sweeping the world right now.
DeFi lets users anywhere on earth (and with internet access) to take part in traditional financial activities like saving, borrowing, and lending, but without any bank or middlemen involved. From decentralized crypto exchanges, crypto banks, and to NFTs selling for millions of Ringgits, the DeFi space is now worth a cool USD$110.92 billion, up from USD$1.5 billion on January 1st.
DeFi is about removing the middlemen from transactions. It is about having access to a global market without powerful intermediaries required to verify and process those transactions. It is about freedom of money without fear of censorship.
Hear the story of DeFi and learn how to get involved in the crypto space in this exclusive workshop.
